Beside Restful Waters
by Gregory Hermann

“Every day love corners me somewhere
and surrounds me with peace without
having to look very far or very hard or
do anything special."
--Thomas Merton
Every day love corners me,
A call to live in a certain way
A whisper to be still and know
A whisper – nothing special.
Every day love corners me,
A brief distraction from
Doing one thing more
And I listen to that same, new voice – nothing special.
Every day love corners me,
Sobriety is my gift
A breeze touches the business
In a moment of now – nothing special.
Ever day love corners me
Pain dims hope
Then loves me in a moment
Of another's touch – nothing special.
Every day love corners me
In undeserved panic
I am not worthy
Till her tear calls my love – nothing special.
Every day love corners me
Silence disturbs
Unfamiliar silence asks
A moment of vision.
Every day love corners me
We sense the need
We hear the moment
We are the love – nothing special.
Every day love corners me
She knows
She beckons
She knows – nothing special.
I am knowing.
We are,
We are.
