The Center's Roots

Happy Anniversary to the Grain of Wheat Community, Inc.!

What is the Grain of Wheat Community you might ask? It is the founding and legal tax exempt corporation for the Center.

Thirty-three years ago on April 1, 1984, a small group of people started a sustainable-style farming community in the Kettle Moraine area. At one point there were four different families living close to each other and living a Christian-based community. We used Jesus of Nazareth’s Sermon on the Mount in Matthew’s Gospel (Matt 5-7) as the foundation of our activity and commitment to living a healthy and peaceful life.

After the members of the community left for other places, the board of directors established the Fond du Lac Center for Spirituality and Healing. The Center’s core value statement demonstrates its roots—

“The Center nurtures PEACE

through establishing a SACRED SPACE of TRANSFORMATION

that honors the sacredness and WHOLENESS of the individual and the COMMUNITY.”

The Center is a sacred space and many newcomers into the Center express that when they say, as they enter, “Wow, such a peaceful feeling in this place!” The Center honors every individual who walks through its doors because we know that each of the people entering are children of the God, children of the Divine Mother. Each individual is valued as a cherished creation of the Source of Life.

All those individuals form a sacred community and I thank God for that community.

Peace be with you!
