“….and the wisdom to know the difference.”

The Serenity Prayer

Notice the title, “Y 12 SR”? We are now certified through the program of Y 12 SR to provide yoga for recovery with the resources of hundreds of leaders, researchers, Yogis, and 12 -steppers. This gives us additional saints, sages, and individuals working through the 12 steps of recovery as offered by Bill W. and Dr. Bob, and as integrated with the ancient Yoga philosophy. Wow! I am very humbled and excited about this step in our service here at the Fond du Lac Center for Spirituality and Healing.

“….and the wisdom to know the difference.” The Serenity Prayer is a source of grounding to those of us in addiction recovery. It is especially powerful when our Yoga practice includes the time to root, ground, breath, and to listen to ourselves direct our practice both on and off the mat. As we learn the language of the body through our Yoga practice, we learn to listen to the quiet, that moment of focus on breath which brings us to the moment of wisdom. This is our moment to activate our next choice: do I move myself to a position of restoration? Do I hold the moment and live the present emotion? Or do I risk a change?

As we know, there is no right or wrong answer. The result is the lesson of life that ‘self study’ offers. What matters is that I give myself a breath or two or three, and be present to myself. The gift of my breath is that we are always together in the present moment. I cannot breathe in the past or in the future. I can breathe only in the present. The present is a breath away. I am grateful for this gift.
