Yoga Teacher Training

Program Summary:
This 200 hour training will be held for one weekend a month for nine months and one weekend in Honesdale PA for the final Ayurveda and Yoga Class. Non-contact requirements for certification include: reading, meditation journal, change of lifestyle journal, supervised teaching experience with self-evaluation reports, exams and Board review. Incorporating traditional yoga theory and the modern knowledge of the body and mind, the student will emerge as an effective yoga teacher and practitioner.
Course Contents:
* Asana practice and teaching
* Yoga philosophy and psychology
* The eight limbs of raja yoga
* Systematic breath training
* Pranayama practice and teaching
* Relaxation techniques
* Stress management tools
* Anatomy and physiology
* Introduction to Sanskrit
* Study of the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutra
* Structuring and sequencing classes
* Practice teaching
Prerequisite: 2 years of prior experience in hatha yoga and a regular practice; and membership in HITA (application fee fulfills this requirement).
The weekends:
2010 - September 18-19, October 16-17, November 13-14, December 11-12; 2011 - January 28-30, February 19-20, March 26-27, April 9-10, May 14-15, June 11-12, and weekend and training, in Honesdale PA, for the Yoga and Ayurveda Training (Date TBD).
Daily Schedule:
Saturday, 8:00am-5pm with one-hour break for lunch
Sunday, 8:00am-5pm with one-hour break for lunch
Costs:
(includes manual, one-year HITA membership,
Yoga & Ayurveda tuition, 10-weekend training sessions)

- Air Transportation to Honesdale (approx) $ 375

Certification:
Participants who complete the program receive Yoga Teacher Certification from the Himalayan Institute Teachers Association and are eligible for the 200-hour level of Registration (RYT) with Yoga Alliance. Most participants complete their certification requirements in one to two years.

Membership in HITA:
Membership in the Himalayan Institute Teachers Association is open to anyone who has been accepted into HITA teacher training programs and to teachers who hold a 200- or 500-hour yoga teacher certification from any tradition.

Luke Ketterhagen, Instructor
Luke Ketterhagen graduated magna cum laude from Marquette University with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. After receiving his yoga teacher training certification from the Himalayan Institute, Ketterhagen joined their full-time staff. He authored the "Asana Basics" column for Yoga International (now Yoga + Joyful Living) magazine from December 2003 to December 2004. Luke appeared as a model in numerous editions of the 16-year-old publication as well as in the best-selling book, Yoga: Mastering the Basics. Former owner and director of Uptown Yoga in Dallas, TX, Ketterhagen was Director of Programming and principal teacher at East West Yoga in Manhattan during its relaunch. Currently teaching in the Los Angeles area, Luke also conducts workshops throughout the U.S., teaching a variety of techniques to practitioners of all levels.
